Empower Productivity

Inference Utilities is comprised of companion applications that assist in management and execution of Inference activities. Currently available utilities include the following:

Inference Console
While the drag-and-drop capabilities of graphical user interfaces are attractive to some users, power users prefer the flexibility and control inherent to command-line interfaces.  Inference Console is an interactive application that utilizes a command line interface for typing in text language commands or for running language scripts from files. It is a good tool fort exploring commands and functions, especially those that produce graphical results.  Inference Console can be used with any data-analysis platform for which the corresponding plug-in has been installed.

Inference Export
Inference Export allows the user to process an Inference document to a chosen destination without opening Microsoft Word.  Multiple Inference Export sessions can be initiated simultaneously, which is especially useful when each session involves lengthy processing time.

Inference Snippet Editor
Code snippets are highly customizable code fragments intended to accomplish simple and intermediate QbD tasks.  Code snippets are powerful productivity aids that enable analysts using Inference Studio to quickly insert complex code fragments into code blocks with just a few keystrokes.  In addition to aiding productivity, code snippets serve as a training tool for using the R data analysis platform and the QbD Function Library, which is implemented as a collection of code snippets for the R data-analysis platform.

Inference code snippets are much more than just code fragments.  They are part of a complete and well designed system that offers the following:
  • replacement fields where code can be quickly adapted to specific needs;
  • linked fields support whereby variable name alteration in one location will be replicated in all other variable locations throughout the snippet;
  • inclusion of associated references (e.g., packages);
  • a tooltip instruction display for help with using code fragments;
  • organization of code snippets into functional groups;
  • support for code snippet management in Inference Studio, allowing the user to maintain a library of snippets on a local computer; and
  • code snippets built upon the XML standard used by Microsoft Visual Studio.

Inference Snippet Editor can be used with any data-analysis platform language to create new code snippets or edit existing ones.  The editor allows you to specify snippet code, metadata (e.g., title, description, keyboard shortcuts to provide fast access), replacement variables (declarations), and references (e.g., packages, modules, libraries). Users can preview snippets as they will appear when inserted into a code block.
